EUID Lookup & BuilderFind or build a European Unique Identifier

Build a European Unique Identifier from a national business register number, or look up the register code your country uses. The EUID is how business registers across the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway refer to the same company without ambiguity.

What an EUID is

The European Unique Identifier is the code assigned to companies and their branches under the Business Registers Interconnection System, BRIS, set up so that the national registers of the European Economic Area can refer to a company unambiguously across borders.

It is not a new number. It wraps the number the national register already issued, prefixing it with the country and the register so that the same string means one company and one company only, anywhere in the Union.

Where to find a company’s EUID

The e-Justice Portal

The Business Registers search returns the EUID alongside the company record. It is the authoritative route.

Your national register

Many registers now display the EUID on the company extract. In Luxembourg it is built on the RCS number.

Build it yourself

If you hold the register number, the builder below assembles the EUID and checks it against the format that register uses.

In a DORA register

The Register of Information accepts the EUID as an identification code for EU legal persons that have no LEI.

Why an EUID does not validate

The structure is simple, which is exactly why the failures are always in the same places.

CauseWhat is happening
Separators stripped Unlike most identifiers, the EUID keeps the register’s own punctuation. The Belgian number 1529.158.212 carries its dots; removing them breaks the pattern.
Wrong register for the country Several countries run more than one business register, each with its own code. The country alone does not determine it.
Greece coded as EL The EUID uses the ISO code GR. EL is the VAT and statistical code, and it does not apply here.
Leading letter dropped Luxembourg RCS numbers begin with a letter that denotes the entity type. B123456 and 123456 are not the same number.
Leading zeros removed A number pasted through a spreadsheet loses its leading zeros. Most register formats are fixed-length and reject the shortened form.
A branch, not the company Branches have their own EUID, distinct from the one of the company that owns them.

Frequently asked questions

Is the EUID the same thing as an LEI?

No. The EUID comes from a national business register and identifies a company in the European registers network. The LEI is a global identifier issued under the GLEIF system, used in financial reporting. A company can hold both, one, or neither.

Can I use an EUID in a DORA Register of Information?

Yes. For an EU legal person with no LEI, the Register of Information accepts the EUID as the identification code, provided the code type declared beside it matches.

Does building an EUID prove the company exists?

No. The builder assembles the identifier and checks it against the register’s format. Whether that number was ever issued is a question for the register itself, through the e-Justice Portal.

Why does my country have several register codes?

Because it operates several registers, sometimes by region, sometimes by entity type. The register table lists each one with its code, its format and a worked example.

Do EUIDs change?

The identifier follows the register entry. A company that is struck off and re-registered receives a new registration number, and therefore a new EUID.

Do you store what I build?

No. The builder runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to Fund XP or kept anywhere.

Identifying providers for your DORA register?

EU legal persons without an LEI are identified by their EUID, and the register checks the code against the type you declare. Our DORA Register of Information solution does that for every row, for under €1,000 a year.
